What Is the Best 17.5 Brushless Motor

Best 17.5 ROAR Spec ESC/Motor combo for 2wd sc

Title is self explanatory. Completed my conversion and I'm looking to swap out my velineon for something a little closer to race spec. I was told previously the Trinity d3.5 is good but is now no longer allowed in that class because it was made illegal.

If you're looking for a cheap and legal package, I would go with the Hobbywing Trackstar package, you get the ESC and motor for about 60 bucks, not a bad deal at all. I've plugged them on here before and I don't have one myself yet, but I know a couple guys I race with use them and swear by them, they perform well and are cheap to pick up multiple of if you run multiple classes. I'm actually planning on picking one up for my next project

I have the trackstar 80a ESC with the 4250KV 4-Pole motor, and it's been a very stout setup for my basher rustler. Mine's geared for ~40mph, and it'll lift the front at speeds under 25mph or so.

The hobby wing justock ESC is awesome, even compared to $200 speed controls it's good.

Hobby wing stock motors are crap though. I'd get a reedy motor but you can't go wrong with Trinity, Fantom, Tekin, or the others. Most motors are really good these days, there isn't one brand that really sticks out as the best.

Various from the 80's, 90's, 00's and now

I would check out the Hobbywing stuff depending on your budget.

Got a huge bonus at work. Budget is not a concern.

Personally I use the hobbyking turnigy trackstar motors because I'm cheap and I have absolutely no issue keeping up with guys running more expensive motors at the track. I never feel like the motor is what is holding me back. I even passed a guy with a high end system down the straight away last week that was running a 10.5t tekin in a b5m while I was running a 17.5t trackstar in an ancient rc10 with a 6 gear transmission. Yes I was geared pretty high but no more than the motor could take. It doesn't run hot at all on 28/81 gearing. My driving skill is what holds me back....

A lot of people including myself run the D4 maxzilla at my local track. I run it with a tekin rs spec because I never plan on running mod sct. My track is indoor high grip "blue groove" clay/dirt with short straights and lots of tight turns. If you run on a larger track you might not want the maxzilla but it's plenty fast on my track.

This is good info to pick up on. I plan on running stock class, but the track is a purpose built tarmac course with ply/carpet jumps. Unless I make a trip to AMAIN or LSR, it's likely it won't see too much dirt racing. Would that affect the hardware, or just the gearing?
